Set against the foothills of Green Mountain in Lakewood, Bear Creek Golf Club is unapologetically golf-first. There are no resort distractions. No spa-driven marketing. No calendar packed with black-tie galas.
This is a players’ club.
Designed by William H. Tucker, the 18-hole championship course winds through native grasses and rolling foothills terrain, creating one of the most visually striking and strategically demanding layouts along the Front Range. Elevation shifts, firm conditions, and bold green complexes reward precision over power. It’s widely known for carrying one of the highest slope ratings in Colorado — and it plays like it.
This is not an easy course. And that’s exactly the point.
One of the biggest drawbacks is that women are not allowed to play golf here. For some, it's a deterrent, and for others, it's totally fine. On the other hand, women can shop in the pro shop, get a massage, and eat at the restaurant.
Their signature restaurant, Jack's Grille, only serves breakfast and lunch.
One of Bear Creek’s most distinctive features is what it doesn’t have: tee times. Members simply show up and play. The flow of the course and its membership culture keep rounds moving, and it’s rare to see play extend beyond four hours.
The practice facilities are equally serious. Members have access to one of the most elaborate training environments in Colorado, including fairway and greenside bunkers, expansive chipping and putting greens, a three-hole practice loop, and Pro V1 range balls. Professional instruction includes video analysis and custom club fitting programs.
And perhaps most notably, lessons are included with membership. Not discounted. Included.
Membership Structure & Current Positioning
Bear Creek operates with a deliberate cap. There are approximately 330 full golf members, with a cap at 350. If you join during the current cycle, you are guaranteed a full membership position the following year.
There is currently strong momentum at the club, with 42 trial memberships recently sold and total membership hovering around 372 across categories — though roughly half of members play on a consistent basis.
A one-year trial membership option allows prospective members to experience the club before fully committing. It’s structured intentionally to let you determine how often you play and whether the investment aligns with your lifestyle.
Full Golf Membership Senior Dues are currently $50,000 for a 40-year-old, and initiation is on a sliding scale. The price increases by $2,000 for every year of age; however, when you join, that is the price you are locked in at. Members have flexible payment structures, and if someone leaves after a few years, they are not responsible for any unpaid remaining initiation balance. Initiation payments made are not forfeited under structured agreements, and you can continue the same plan if you come back.
Monthly dues are approximately $940, plus a $75 pro shop fee. That pro shop fee includes bag storage, Pro V1 balls, and short lessons (15–20 minutes). Extended instruction runs approximately $100 per hour plus gratuity.
Junior dues are $720 per month plus the $75 pro shop fee. One of the most compelling family features is that sons maintain membership privileges through age 25 — and children receive complimentary lessons.
There are no women’s leagues for golf, reinforcing the club’s historically traditional, golf-centric culture. That said, the environment is focused, fast-moving, and built around serious players.
Guest policies remain controlled to protect pace of play and member access.
