Curios as to what human foods are best for your furry friend? We want to make sure that we are giving our pets healthy and delicious treats! Here are 8 great options that I share with Nellie on a regular basis!
Apples
When you give apples to your pets, make sure that you remove the core, seeds and slice into smaller pieces. I always like to go with organic apples. Just like for humans, I wash the fruit before I pass it along to Nellie.
Blueberries
Blueberries are packed with vitamins C & K and an excellent source of antioxidants. As you’re snacking on them, pass a few along to your pet to give them the same great immune boost!
Pears
The same is true for pears as apples. Make sure you remove the core, seeds and wash the fruit before you serve it. Pears are loaded with tons of vitamin C, a great way to keep your pet heathy though the New Year!
Carrots
Carrots are a wonderful veggie that is naturally sweet and loaded with antioxidants and beta-carotene, which provides healthy eyesight. Pups love crunching into a raw carrot. Please remember to wash, peel and cut into smaller pieces before giving to your animal. You can also cook the carrots as well! Just make sure they are cooler before giving as a treat!
Sweet Potato
These bad boys are exploding with vitamins A, C, E and B6 and happen to be an excellent source of dietary fiber. You can find all sorts of treats with sweet potatoes and your pup will love them! Cooked, dried, or raw they all are great options!
Green Beans
Green beans are an excellent source of vitamin A, C, K and also contain fiber and some vitamin B. The best way to give green beans to your pet is with a quick steam. You want to make sure you stick with fresh green beans and not the canned option. Green beans in a can tend to be high in salt and unhealthy for your animal.
Chicken
Chicken can be a very desirable dog treat. Make sure you give them small cooked pieces that are free from any bones and skin. Chicken as treats is a great way to give your dog some extra protein and vitamin B6 into their diet. I usually stick with an organic chicken breasts and stay away from the rotisserie chicken due to the high levels of salt.
Raw Beef Bones
If your looking for a long-lasting, high-value treat, raw beef bones are where it’s at! A knucklebone or femur bone are the best choices and your dog will go WILD over them. Gnawing on a raw bone is good for the dogs teeth and gums. Not to mention it will keep them busy for hours! When you give your dog the bone, make sure you check and make sure the edges don’t get too sharp that they would injury themselves.
There are several other options when it comes to giving your pet human food. These eight options are my favorites. They will give your pet a yummy treat that also happens to be healthy for them! Now go and spoil your sweet animals!
